Mandy Takhar

Mandy Takhar is a British Indian model and actress, who predominantly appears in Punjabi films.

Career

Mandy Takhar was born and raised in the city of Wolverhampton in the UK. She traces her roots to Maliana, a small town near Phagwara in Punjab. She grew up dreaming of becoming a Bollywood actress. Mandy had moved to London from her family home when she was 17, to study drama at the Kingston University. She then left the UK in 2006 to work as a model and actor in the Indian film industry.

She moved to Mumbai and did a few TV commercials and two south Indian films. Then, she landed the role opposite Punjabi singer Babbu Mann in the 2010 film, Ekam - Son of Soil. Two years after that, she was offered Gippy Grewal's film, Mirza - The Untold Story. Mandy was also seen in a relatively unknown Bollywood film called Bumboo, which did not fare well. She played a Canada-based businesswoman opposite Sangram Singh in the film, Saadi Wakhri Hai Shaan.

In 2013, she starred in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 a comedy alongside Amrinder Gill and Honey Singh. She played a "theth Punjabi Kudi" named Simmy in the film. In April 2013, she got the Most Prominent and Popular Face of 2012-13 Award at the 6th Punjabi Film and Music Festival. She was also seen in another Bollywood film Akaash Vani. Her upcoming release is Ishq Garaari in which she has portrayed a character called Miss Sweety. She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Venkat Prabhu's Biriyani starring Karthi. She said that she played a "super sexy role in the film", Maya, for which she had put on weight, and that "it was pretty tough".
